As far as the Omaha issue, it was a crap shoot as far as who was hit. Sometimes being the first one out saved your life because the Germans couldn't concentrate their fire quick enough. Other times, they had the craft pegged the moment it approached the beach.

It's amazing to read about all the near misses or unfortunate circumstances that put people in harm's way. Wrong place/Wrong time, etc.

It's funny to see how many people get their WWII history from films like Private Ryan or from games like MOH. Although there are some elements of "realism", much of what you see from Hollywood is simply BS.

I'm suprised more people don't read about what really happened. I understand that many people play this game just to shoot em up (and that's perfectly fine. In fact, that's the reason I play too). But as most of "The Greatest Generation" are dying, I fear much of their history will eventually die too because too many people don't care enough about it.

I think "mr.miyagi" has made a great point and I wish others would take the time to appreciate what these men and women have done and the sacrafices they made during the prime of their lives. It's truly amazing and worth recognizing.

For those interested in learning more about what really happened I would recommend any work by Stephen Ambrose (particularly D-Day and Citizen Soldiers). Ambrose is a great author of WWII history and he captures the essence of being a soldier during that period.
