It still is a little far fetched to praise a piece of fabric. I'm sure no body agrees with every single aspect of their country. In my school, there are so many people that dont say the pledge of allegence you can't even count them all. No one makes a big deal about it at all...so unless you actually live it, you can't jump to conclusions. None of them are looked down upon. As for standing, hell yeah, you better stand. If you're in our country you better give some decency to have a small bit of respect for the soil you're standing on.
