It IS important to be critical of the results... especially when someone says
"hey, I have a 160 IQ!": what do they mean by 160 ? Are they referring to
a 15 or 24 point standard deviation ? If the former, they would be considered
exceptionally gifted, whereas on a 24 deviation, slightly above the gifted level.
If an online test gives you a result that doesn't include a percentile range, run.
Even if it did, online norming (or author extrapolation) invalidates the test from
the start. I only know of two, maybe three valid online tests... and even they
suffer from slightly inaccurate norming. Whatever your score online, it's good
to multiply by .95 to be sure of your result...
