As far as compatibility from 35mm to a specific DSLR, in most cases you won't have a problem. However, a standard lens behaves differently on a DSLR since the DSLR's ccd is much smaller than the size of 35mm film. To put it simply you will get the equivalent of about 1.5 times the magnification using a standard lens on a DSLR. This may or may not excite you depending on what you plan on photographing. For example, the increased magnification comes at the expense of the breadth of the zoom. You won't get the same wide angle shots on a DSLR with you macro lens as you did before. I guess it just depends on what you want.

Same standard lens used on a 35mm and DSLR respectively.

Yeah they do. Every Nikon lense from around 1950 and up will fit on any of their DSLRs. But you lose metering and potentially auto focus.

and the whole 1.6x magnification thing...

Without metering, how would automatic exposure settings work? It would be worth it just to buy a digital lens. You're sacrificing more than it's worth if using older lenses.

I never said it would be wise to do it, but it is possible to use your old glass.

PS: I REALLY want that new 18-200mm AF- S VRII lense... *drool*

I'm also thinking of selling my D70s to a friend and getting the new D200 when it comes out. Lot's of new features and a great price, but the thing I like the most is the weather proofing!

i meant it as a general statement, not directed towards you. I was thinking of doing the same to get the d200, but i'm happy with my d70. I don't need anything more. When xmas rolls around im getting a 70-300 in the ED series, and then a Hoya r72 Infrared filter happy: .

Why would someone like you possibly need a $8000 professional camera...

Forte: I would sell it to but I'm not sure when I'll have $1000 laying around to buy the D200.

As others have said - if your talents are Point And Shoot - what the fuck do you need a 600-700 dollar camera for?

my talents go beyond point and shoot. ive been using a camera since I was 5. Ive been using my mom's Nikon on and off. Last time I bought a camera it was about 600-700 bucks. So in the same state of mind I thought thats what point and shoots were still in. Now I see that I can get a good DSLR for that price range.

@ Akuma: I plan on doing shots for art, vacation stuff, and most important mapping. Need some really nice quality shots for textures and references.
