He shouldn't have gotten her shit, a relationship shouldn't be based off what your significant other buys you for some fucking Hallmark Holiday.

Maybe some flowers and a meaningful trinket for your anniversary or something nice for her birthday, but I'll be god damned if I'm forking over or her forking over large sums of money for shiny bits of metal and compressed coal or whatever.

You shouldn't need to lavish your boyfriend/girlfriend in gifts to have them like you. IMHO.
