He was a type of bone surgeon and doctor, he often went on trips paid by drug companies..even went golfing a few times and went to conferences etc. They basically pay doctors to sell their products. Kind of like the whole "the fugitive" plot. Every time I see my doctor he desperately wants to give me drugs.

this has changed bigtime, I work for the worlds largest orthopeadic implant company. Everything is monitored by the govt regarding gifts. When I started here they would take docs all over the place on the company tab. That just doesnt happen any more. There has been a crack down on "gifts", they are now limited to something like $50. One of our competitors just got whacked by the govt for going outside the new rules. The one thing you still get away with is the lunches, our sales reps are always feeding the OR staff and CPD.
