...ok Germ, I've think I've got the story now,
...earlier in the movie, Tony mentions how he would "really like a slap-up cokfish dinner"....
on hearing this, his suicidal chum dives into the river in order to secure said cokfish, and also to big-note himself in Tonys eyes.....
apparently, because he was totally gay, he felt sure he could withstand the impact,
