[quote:c62cc]# 1981- A Russian trawler in the Ross Sea, off the coast of Antarctica, caught a large squid (see image at beginning of article) with a total length of 4 meters (13 feet), which was later identified as an immature female of Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni.
# 2003- A complete specimen was found near the surface with a total length of 6 meters (20 feet) and a mantle length of 2.5 meters (8 feet).
# 2005- A specimen was captured at a depth of 1625 meters while taking a toothfish from a longline off South Georgia Island. Although the mantle was not brought aboard, the mantle length was estimated at over 2.5 m, and the tentacles measured 230 centimeters. The animal is thought to have weighed between 150 and 200 kilograms.[3]
They've caught them before, I never said anything about how old it was.
Yeah but you did say that it wasn't as exciting because they had caught one recently. oOo:
Actually this is very exciting considering how much bigger this one is, and that it is fully intact - So I dunno what you're talking about.

Take a deep breath their man. First of all, I recognized that I hadn't made the distinction between this colossal squid and the recently caught giant squid. I'll admit that, but still, this is hardly as exciting as the recently caught Giant squid; a species that hadn't even been seen alive until recently and was then shortly after caught alive. That's all I meant. You're right, it's impressive how large it is, but to me, it's not as big of a deal as catching a species that was enshrouded in so much more mystery like the Giant squid.[/quote:c62cc]

[quote:c62cc]"The colossal squid has just arrived in New Zealand and it is likely that it is the first intact adult male colossal squid to ever be successfully landed," Mr Anderton said. [/quote:c62cc]

Yes, of course its not as exciting, not only is it the largest colossal squid ever captured, but its also the first male adult colossal squid ever captured. oOo:

Its almost the fucking same you tool. Besides who actually said it was a bigger deal than capturing a giant squid 'not too long ago'. Obviously it has some interest to other people, else it wouldnt have been posted here or on the bbc website, if it doesnt interest you, shut yer fuckin hole.
