Downloaded and installed latest Ethernet driver, no real big impact yet, just a bit faster but not a big improvement.
What's that site where you test your ping against other computers all over the world? I remember it had a green global map to choose from. Was something like http://www.testping.net, can't recall.

Anyhow, more options are available now:
