Let's go ask 100 people in the street about flag etiquette. More than 2 will know it, probably a good number more will know it.

I just don't see how someone from Ireland can make a broad generalized assertion about how many Americans would know American regulations. You don't see me asserting what percentage of Irish families ate potatoes last night, because the fact is I can't substantiate that in any way, just as you can't substantiate your statement about a foreign concept in a foreign country. You can't make assertions about cultural knowledge or practices if you haven't spent substantial time in them.

A flags a fucking flag no matter what way you slice it, there are rules that govern flags that are in law but dont get enforced, for example having lettering on flags you have to get a form of pemission to do this..im willing to bet all those flags with football teams names on i see week in week out on tv have none of those permissions.

Fact of the matter is the video was blown totally out of proportion, one old guy gets angsty and everyones jumping on the bandwagon. Would you say its a safe bet to assume cops had driven past that store numerous times and never said diddily shit about the flag..cops you know the people that ENFORCE the law? Nah clearly that idea is waaaay too out there to be feasible.

And it has FUCK all to do with what country you come from, the vast majority of people are very ignornant about laws and what constitutes a law being broken or not. Theres so many technicalities in law its not suprising that most people draw a blank on the subject.

these arguments are precisely what goes on when you have this kind of attention on something as insignificant as this case. did anyone even bother to interview the bar owner and find out what his intent was? all you have are interviews of pissed off people w/o any knowledge of what was going on. This guy is talking about fighting like a man and mexicans taking over america and all he has to base this on is someone calling a radio station and says that a mexican flag is flying higher than the US flag.

and ffs save the 'respect the veterans' remark for the next anti war, canada vs america, bush vs clinton thread. i was in the navy for 4 years and i dont see how this case remotely hints at veterans being disrespected. whether this man meant to insult americans oroubt just preferred to have a mexican flag on top, its his right to decorate his store the way he wants to. just because you dont like what he has on his property, it doesnt give you any justification to tear it down. infringing on someones rights, whether the intent was nationalistic or criminal, is just as much disrespectful to veterans as flying a foreign flag higher than the US flag with the sole purpose of insulting Americans.

I doubt this guy meant to insult anyone, but it got picked up by the media and now everyone has something to say about it.

....and theyre all military/police/scout/ranger whatever.....which means if you dont ever belong to any kind of rank in your life like thousands and thousands of people do then you get fucking publicly abused - and then the abusers get supported by idiots like you people.

i cant believe some of the people on this board sometimes. sometimes i wonder if this whole forum is one big internet joke on me.

If you were educated in the United States you should have learned flag etiquette in the first grade, right along with The Pledge of Allegiance and the alphabet.
