Yah, you're not alone. My comp.'s capable of running it, but my dad is nuts. He's allowed me to play Doom 3 and NOLF2, but not Half Life 2, or any other M-rated games. Its crazy..
...I got those pics from another forum. Truthfully, dunno why I posted 'em, just thought they were too funny to be left just at one forum.

Hehe, thats some neat rag-doll. You ever see Rainbow Six's ragdoll physics? Those ones are terrible..played the MP demo..I remember shooting a guy in a doorway, and his arms flung to the side, and he was basically about to fall through the doorway, with only his arms on the other side of the door keeping him from doing it. Funny to see, though.

If its of any consolation before me new pc got its net connection turned on I played HL2 on my older Dell PC and it ran great. Its specs were P4, 1.5ghz, 1023mb sdram, geforce 2 ti and it ran fine, bout 25-45fps. HL2 scales down for older PCs very very well.
Whats your pc specs? i think RAM is important in running it well enough...
I think CS runs easier on systems than HL2 also..

^ More like in game cinematics or cut scenes. Hl2 does look good, you have to take into account the physics takes up a shitload of cpu time as well.

Even the reflections in hl2 are impressive.

Those elderscroll shots are either cut scenes like gerv said or there screens touched up in photoshop. Theres just no way you could have a playable framerate with that much foliage. Aside from that they look a bit odd, esspecially the first one.
