What do you know the oil executives and petroleum experts dont know? Its not whether or not there is enough oil to go around "today" (there is) - it when and how soon will each of the major oil producers "top out". The US already did - it is inevitable that others will as well.

Regulating oil prices in the united states because you dont want to pay 3 bucks at the tank (or 10 bucks american in the UK) is bullshit and anti-capatalism and would only HURT consumners in the long run. Whats next, regulating the price of a pair of sneakers? Of internet access? How about we start regulating the price of goods in YOUR service industry - see how long you keep your job then.

I'm not advocating regulation. The problem I have is businesses and unethical behaviour by using scarcity to drive up prices. They can set any price they want, however there are limited alternatives to consumers due to the monopoly over the market. Capitalism is about competition to drive down prices and give consumers viable options which is the opposite of how the industry works.

Gas is a necessity in many North American lives. They can't just not buy gas.
