I joined the Army a number of months ago, and I leave July 29th for BCT at Fort Benning OSUT. recep + 13 weeks for infantry training. after that, Airborne School. after that, 82nd Airborne. A good friend of mine graduates basic there next week, plus he's airborne too. Actually, he's got the same job as me. Can't wait to talk to him again. hell, I just can't wait to go! 102 days, 101 days left.... biggrin:

How do you know you can get a spot in the 82nd? Isnt it backed up with people trying to get in or something?

It is garunteed in my closed contract. You can pick and choose a lot more options in the Army than in any of the other services. Besides, the only other airborne units out there, that I can think of right now, are the 173rd Brigade in Vicenza, Italy (would really like to go to that one btw!) the 2 Brigades based in Alaska, and not many others. 101st is not airborne anymore, they're air assault (choppers). They just keep the airborne tab for historical reasons i've heard. These smaller units are harder to get into because there is less slots available. 82nd has thousands of Paratroopers, so you would think it wouldn't be as hard to get a slot. The Army won't send a soldier with jumpwings to, say, 4th ID or 2nd ID. Personally, I wouldn't care which one I was assigned to if I didn't have a choice. They're all good.
