Best way to get lightning is just to set it up in a tripod and set to take random pics. You have to guess where the next one will strike. Also use a large view so you have a better chance of capturing one. There is no way anyone is quick enough to get a shot off. It's mostly luck.

Holy fucking a....i want to get into photography, but im wayyyy to broke and poor to even afford an SLR, let aloen a nice camera. I need a fuckign PC upgrade first, 600 dollars right there

See if you can find an old film SLR or ebay or whatever, they have most of the same functions of a dSLR. You can get down the basic features then when you finally get a dSLR you'll have some knowlege of how it works and will be able to take decent pics without spending hours reading manuals.

I can get a good one with my discount at best buy. But the only way to get the pics online is to scan them right?

For a film SLR, yeah, you have to scan them. Unless the place that developes them gives CDs with all pics on it.

I would recommend doing your own film processing... But it's expensive and this is just a hold over until you can get a good dSLR.

Haha, yeah I know. I was just saying that if you were seriously going to into film SLR photography at a semi-professional or even enthusiast level then you could do your own.

They were pretty much bursts shots. With the shutter open for half a minute I just keep shooting and shooting. I took 10 pics before the storm blew over, so I captured a good 5 minutes of what was going on in my view. I thought it woudl all have to be dumb luck, but as long as you have the camera pointed in the area of the bolts, chances are you'll catch some strikes.

As for getting into photography, I would say the best thing for you to do is buy a cheaper point and shoot digital camera. They will do everything you need them to do, and they save you from having to learn the functions of an SLR, but the trade off is that you lose the level of control SLRs provide. I know a few guys in a few forums that do alot of photography with cameras like a Powershot G6 or any Nikon Coolpix and they pull off great shots. If you do decide to get an SLR or dSLR I would suggest you start reading up now on how they work, or even take a course being offered around the area. If you take a course, you'll learn all you need to know and tons more, and you'll have access to a dark room in which they'll teach you how to use.

I have kodak Easyshare point and shoot 4 MP's with 3x opitical, nothing special but it works. I knwo how to use the diffren scene modes and stuff like that now.
