I certainly won't be continuing to map. Even back last summer when I released my first and only complete moh map(s), even when the game was still fairly heavilly modded and popular, the 4-5 months I spent on my map were wasted.

Why?

It hardly got played.

It got some exposure on the old aa.com and I gather it still gets used on a few American servers out there but that's not really any use to me (Can't be arsed to play with 150 ping, makes rifle-work extremely masochistic).

I advertised it like crazy around as many fansites and ladders as I could but it didn't get used nearly as much as everyone said they would use it when I was nearing completion.

Sound bitter? A little, maybe. I enjoyed making it and I am very proud of the final product that I created (with the help of this community's feedback, of course) but it did take up a good few months of my spare time.

And the only time I've played it is once, except for on my own listen server, which is lame.

An even bigger kick in the face was that my map was downloaded less than maps like the tank one (you get to control a tank in MP, about 5 minutes fun - the actual map was poor) and just about every other half finished beta that you could name. No, no one wanted a brand new and original map, they wanted one of 2015's stock maps converted with some boxes a roof and some additional and box-like rooms with dodgy miss-aligned textures.

This all drew me to the conclusion that this community isn't interested in mods or maps and skins. Not seriously.

They get downloaded, they get removed.

I downloaded loads of maps and kept them, even though some of them were sub-standard in my eyes. I saw it as worth-while so long as the maps were playable and were being played.

Now, I have no maps in my main. Waste of disk space.

Also, what's the point in mods if you can't use them without being accused of cheating?

I was impressed by the work gone into the Eye Candy mod (except the sound, they butchered that, you cannot improve on the originals whatsoever) but the mod did make the game look fresh and new (if a little cartoony).

The problem is, what if someone asks for a screenshot on a non modded server? You're fucked.

If they don't know what the eyecandy mod is they'll think you cheat.

Blood mods? Cheats.

Skins? Cheats!

Crosshairs? Cheats! In NO other game are custom crosshairs considered a cheat!

It's a bloody farce.

Mods are a 5 second distraction, nothing more.

So, you can rest assured that this particular mug ain't going to bother with them anymore.

Ok, I feel better now. biggrin:

I never even bothered to release my modded scopes. They were designed to allow better tracking and easier aquisition, for good, fast shots. In the words of the comuntiy they where "cheats". I only adjusted the lines and shading, never decreased the black area, i in fact increased the darkend area.

The modding area is practically dead from simple paranoia, more than real cheats. I step into a server now days and the server turns off my force models, and kicks me for not using stock skins. Why the hell did i bother downloading those skins WOLF-MAN put so much time into. His green beret skin is badass, i never get to see it though.

Personally i dont see a point into modding Mohaa. You get so tired of being called a cheat every 5 seconds you only play for 10 minutes. Why waist more than that looking at mods and making mohaa look good when the people playing it are the downside.

1st welcome aboard Notis. An updated front page, can only mean better times ahead for AA.com

2nd. Ydiss, I must say your maps was one of the best maps out there. It was requested a number of times on the AA.com game server, when we would changed the rotation.

For your first and only map, it was one of the best.

Thank-you, rude. Don't get me wrong, I know it was appreciated by a few people. In fact I never got one negative word for the very final versions (even though there was still some small scripting errors in Objective that I never bothered to change).

I know it was a good map. I'm not being big headed at all. I'm proud to say that because I spent so much bloody time on it. Also it is good because about 25% of the final product was community driven and fed-back.

I wanted to spend all that time on it because when I started making it there was a lot of very poor and half-finished betas out there and nothing more. These maps were getting played but only because the community was starved of quality maps.

So, I set out and took my time. I wanted to make it as good as I possibly could and I think I did. I listend to all critisism I got and I tried my best to impliment all the suggestions I got (and I got loads and loads and loads of them).

By the time I released it there was also a lot more high quality maps available.

But, only one or two servers ran them.

Now, when I scan in ASE all available servers across the world I only see maybe 2-3 with red-out map names (ie ones I don't have on my system) and I don't have any maps loaded except the stock ones.

It's sad, but I don't lose any sleep over it. I loved making xfire and I enjoyed all the feedback and compliments I got for it. That part was worth all the time I put in.

It's just a damned shame that maps like it and better don't get used. I used to blame EA, but I have seen it's not their fault at all (although, I just tried SH for the first time last night and witnessed the winners of EA's farcical map competition - I'd say only one of them was playable, the rest are all horrible FPS-whores).

It's the community in general that's to blame.

Those that actively tried (and try) to use custom maps (I don't care about other mods and skins) don't really come under that last sentance. The problem is, you can't use these maps if no one will actually download them and visit your server.

So, most servers just play it safe and stick with the stock 7 maps.

I still get the urge to make another map from time to time but then I think about how long it will take and how it will not get used and I suddenly forget why I wanted to do it at all.

If it helps, Ydiss, I ran a server that literally at no time had less than 16 players (unless it crashed), 24 hours a day. And that map was always requested to be in the rotation by someone, and I enjoyed it.

Joe, would have been nice. Maybe could have pruned the database oOo:
