Yes, AA Guns and SAM's. DC, NY, and a few other major cities already have these installations atop some of theri buildings and on the ground. Of course they are not easily seen. Ill see if I can snag a picture of one of buildings in DC that has (what appears to be 2 missles) on its roof top There is also the possibility a new aircraft override control system that is under development. Where air controllers can take over the planes auto pilot system and force it to hold a course and alititude. The pilot would not be able to override the system without a passcode. We'll see if it actually goes to production.

The pics would be cool...and that aircraft override control system sounds like a great idea.

IMHO, These new towers look stupid. Not only are they now the #1 Target for Terrorists, but in 10 years, when things looking that abstract are no longer trendy, they'll be seen to be fucking stupid looking.

Replica's of the originals, says I, with 'Chumbawumba - Tubthumping' playing at the re-opening;
"I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down..."

[quote="Fluffy_Bunny":ebaea]Haven't they learnt the lessons of the dangers of tall buildings? It would truly suck if another plane flew into this one...

How come it isnt 1783 feet high, thats the year you guys won the war isn't it?[/quote:ebaea]

The point is to show that we will not let terrorist dictate how we live our lives or build our building.

The 1776 date is more significant to the US because that is the year we declared our independence.
The fact that it took 7 years for England to decide they didnt want to commit the resources to put down the rebellion is an afterthought. We have considered ourselves independent since 1776.

10 years MAYBE, but in 20 years they will not be seen like that. When the first trade towers went up they recieved HORRIBLE reviews. People HATED THEM. They were considered the sore thumbs of new york. BUT they had a unique character.... they became a defining Icon for New Yorkers. Right up there with the Statue of Liberty. Over time, the public will learn the appreciate such a technological achievement.

If your interested in learning more about the MEMORIAL designs, pick up the latest issue of "ARCHITECTURE" at a magazine store. There is a pretty good article in there about it. The cover has an image of Koolhaas student center on it, but i assure you that it is in there.
