haha I can give you a recap of my impressions of Halloween and the Mifflin Street blockparty.
Halloween:
That entire weekend people dressed up, the main party day was that saturday night though, our house got 8 kegs, little did we know we had an O2 leak so we had to walk like 8 blocks to the liquor store and get a new tube (I got to carry it back, those things are HEAVY!). SO we started the night at the house with a century club (power hour but 100minutes), then around 10 we packed the place with people and got wasted. Around 12:30 we had gone through all 8 kegs and cleared the party and headed to State Street (madison's main street lined with shops, no traffic allowed). It was THE most ridiculous thing I have ever seen, imagine an entire street a mile long packed with people all in costume, girls of course wearing very little even though it was freezing out. You honestly could barely move once you were on the street. The only peopleless spots were in a small radious around the mounted cops Madison had at each block. My good friend ended up pissing himself in a girls bed, then walking to the guys side of the dorms and passing out on a random guys floor, at around 3am we could see the tear gas rising over the street and the police turned on huge flood lights to prevent riots like the previous 2 years. It was a crazy night.
Mifflin Street block party is a lesser known madison tradition but every bit as crazy. It happens 2 weekends before spring finals start. The police shut off a 4 block section of Mifflin Street (right off campus, known for house partys, every given weekend their are atleast 6 or 7 parties on that street) to traffic for the entire day, just about every house ont he street gets kegs.. So you wake up as early as possible from you hangover the night before, then go to the street and start drinking at like 9am. The cops are only their to make sure riots dont start, but dont give out minors or anything, you can hav your beer on the sidewalk no problem. Alot of houses have live bands playing on their porches, Axe body spray sent their Axe girls and they were giving away stuff... Basically the entire student body is crammed into this street and into every house and backyard. The party lasts until dark when, of course, you go out and party some more.
As you can imagine, alcohol is a big part of Madison. If you dont drink and dont plan to start, Madsion is still a great school, I mean our academics are probably top 3 public schools in the midwest. Dont get me wrong, we DO work hard in school, VERY hard, their is definitly no slacking, I suppose thats why when thursday rolls around, we are ready to celebrate another week gone by. If you have a friday class before 1pm, expect to go still drunk. I remember a chem discussion one friday morning just sitting there telling myself to not say anything the enitire time or else my TA will know I'm still drunk... Come for the school and academics, stay for the people and parties.
That was a long post and I open at work tom... waste of a weekend when you have to get up at 6 every day... off to sleep...
EDIT: I'll post a few pictures from this year.. gimme a sec..
