As a member nation of OCEANIA, I would have thought that our school system would have gotten it right.....and reading through a couple of websites now (most likely North American ones) I am finding out for the first time that the continent is refered to be people overseas as simply AUSTRALIA.....And no doubt, just because it is the biggest country in the continent.
im sorry dude, but i, we...from north america have never heard about this oceania before . i too was taught that there was 7 continents. and australia was one of them

guess you can just chaulk this one up to us being arrogant egocentric asshole americans again rolleyes:
Well whoop dee doo.....The people that actually live in the continent have it right. Same goes for the whole North America/South America or America confusion. I'd agree with whatever you Americans decided, seeing as its your continent.

I wouldn't call you ignorant at all for thinking that it's called Australia. I blame the people who initially decided to name it that. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be anyone from this continent, either.

Blah! This is getting stupid and out of hand - Who gives a shit....Just let it be known that IN Oceania, we tend not to refer to ourselves as simply AUSTRALIA, because that would be inconsiderate and confusing. There.

[quote="Unknown_SPELLING PROBLEM":df525]yeah last I check Oceanea or...a bunch of small ass island out in te middle of an ocean wasnt a giant land mass called a continent. while Australia was. [/quote:df525]

Please, TYPE IN FUCKING ENGLISH!

Those 'small ass islands' out in the middle of the ocean make up about 21 out of 22 of the nations in OCEANIA. Australia is ONE country.

BTW - Your fucked up logic astounds me.

I'm from US and I know it as Oceania, not Australia.
One's a country the other's a continent.

NO!...no, I won't have that! ...it's threads like these that expand our knowledge of continents, that let
us experience the latitude and longitude of fellow posters, as well as planetary information pertaining to
the various forum members!, asking for their removal is to snuff out the very flame of knowledge itself....erm, probably. eek:

I stick with my first answer, these forums suck. The only reason I come here is to read posts that have links to videos.

Continents are big fucking land masses. This makes Terra Australis a continent. Oceania is a region, just as the Carribean or Meditteranian is a region. However, i must stress that i mean no disrespect to New Zealand or anything like that, but the fact is it's just not geographically big enough to be a continent.

Oceania smells like PC bullshit to me, but that's just my opinion. I was never taught that Oceania was a continent. I wouldn't put this down to the Education system over here being Australia-centric, becuase it's not. It's just the way it used to be taught. Hell, most of you tikes are still in school, so you probably know better. But in my day it was Good ol' Australia.
