What it is causing the problem is the hardware acceleration for your sound card. Go to your start menu and in run type DXDIAG itll bring up your DX menu. Go to sound and the harware acceleration slide it all the way to the left and it should work for you. I have a GF2mx400 and i have no lag what so ever so if you cant afford to buy a GF4 ti 4600 go with a GF3ti200 off of ubid.com i have one on order! I seen a radeon 9000 pro for $149 at circuit city where i live but i have a GF3 ti200 on order so i dont need the radeon. It is your video card. Good luck and let me know if you need any more help

BTW i forgot to mention my MX400 is overclocked with a heatsink fan running on it. Not on the card itself but inside my tower. Its 2 years old and still running. I seen the radeon pro 9700 for $400!! ed: I wouldnt pay that much for a card.
