if you have a VIA chipset get the latest 4.31 I think... 4in1 drivers, everything will run alot better. Solidus, try using Windows 98 SE instead of Win ME. ME is crap, it's on my dads computer and is very unstable especially if you only have the update version. Try a system format, install Win 98 SE and install all the latest drivers for your hardware, and maybe try the Detonator 11.01 drivers for your video card, might improve some aspects of gameplay/fps.
Actually, all AMD CPU's are very good and cheap to boot. Dont buy Intel. AMD Thunderbird or Palamino are the way of the future, even Duron are good. They are very overclockable especially the new 1.4 Ghz CPU with an MSI K7TPro R 266 Mobo, which I'm getting within a few weeks
