In order to use DX 9 don't you have to have hardware that supports it? Maybe your lag is caused by your video card struggling with DX 9?

I upgraded to DX 9 and it cleared up my problems, which were quite similiar to the ones stated above. That doesn't appear to be your problem though. I have a lower end vid card (32mb AIW Radeon) and it doesn't struggle at all with DX 9.

Just something else to consider in the discussion.
