SOG in the Vietnam war (if this is what you are referring it too) did not stand for "Special Operations Group". It stood for "Studies and Observation Group".

And Con Brio, most soldiers who wore disruptive pattern material were Special Forces (Army Green Beret) or Special Ops units like SEALs or UDT's. Other units like US Army Rangers, Australian Special Air Service and the South Vietnamese units trained under those soldiers also wore camouflage gear.
