We were going to give out the Purple Heart in the game, but realized there weren't many situations were we could give it out, so we changed it to a different medal instead.

The Medal of Honor is not given as well. It was only given in the original PSX Medal of Honor, but as a request of the Congressional Medal of Honor society, and out of respect to the actual Medal of Honor receipients, it was / will not be given in any other MoH title. There really isn't anything you can do in a video game to justify giving out an award of that magnitude as compared with what those people had to go through in real life to have been awarded it.
