Maybe if the landing gear is stuck, they can't get the same fuel economy and wouldn't make it? Don't know. I was on a 4 engine 747 going from Anchorage, AK to Japan and about half-way through the flight, one of the engines malfunctioned and was shut down. For some reason, they decided to turn around and go back to AK with 3 engines rather than continuing on. It was pretty funny to watch the people who were dozing not realize that we were landing in Alaska after a 7 hour flight. happy: |
The plane was loosing fuel faster than usual because of the drag of the landing gear being out. It was the safest bet just to circle the area
