In the comics - there is an "arc" where Jean (who the fuck is "Gene" - Mean Gene Okerlund?) transplants her mind into that of the White Queen, Emma Frost (a fellow telepath) - so obviously noone dies in comics, or comic book movies.

As for the movie - it had none of Brian Singers "style" - but it was what the other two were, big action set pieces, light on story.
